IASP - Area of Innovation / Innovation District "Areas of innovation" are places designed and curated to attract entrepreneurial-minded people, skilled talent, knowledge-intensive businesses and investments, by developing and combining a set of infrastructural, institutional, scientific, technological, educational and social assets, together with value added services, thus enhancing sustainable economic development and prosperity with and for the community.
SLIDE 5 There are many different models of areas of innovation – spanning from the broader city or region model with innovation activities in different locations within the area, to more place-specific projects like innovation districts, knowledge quarters, science parks, innovation hubs and the
- like. As a common feature they all have a management team
tasked to execute a strategy conducive to growing innovation activity in the area.

Today in the U.S.….. Talent chooses WHERE to work, before WHO to work for- 65% choose place before company The Quality of the WHERE is paramount…but… Quality is defined differently by the post baby boom workforce

City environments provide the stimulation and richness to attract talent.... Technology clusters can grow organically and with intention in concentrated areas of cities …. that is – areas of innovation… Fourth Helix “organization” providing leadership, curation and structure is essential for sustained long term success and impact.

“The rise of (areas of innovation) seem perfectly aligned with the disruptive dynamics of our era –
- crowd sourced rather than close sourced,
- entrepreneurial rather than bureacratic, and
- networked rather than hierarchial.
