  3. What are School Results? School results are drawn from: § Report cards. § CBE Student Survey. § Accountability Pillar Report. § Measures of achievement for previous school development plans. § Other achievement data collected by teachers throughout the year.

  4. How are School Results Used? § Support student learning on a daily basis as staff individually and collaboratively develop instructional strategies and lesson plans. § Inform professional development throughout the year. § Inform the Three-Year Education Plan. § Provide key data for the school development planning process.

  5. What is a School Development Plan? § A school development plan is an action plan for a school outlining what students and teachers will do to improve student learning outcomes connected to the school results. § A school development plan has three main parts: § Theory of Action § Achievement & Well-Being § Instruction

  6. Why Do We Have a School Development Plan? § Ensures a targeted and focused approach to address achievement gaps. § Allows staff, students and parents to understand the strategies the school will use to improve student learning. § Fulfills legislated requirement under the School Act.

How Do We Develop a School Development Plan? § Dig deeply as a staff into student data and other achievement results. § Identify an issue for whole-school focus. § Develop an action plan to influence student learning outcomes. § Share with school council for feedback. § Obtain feedback reflective of student voice.

How is the School Development Plan Used? § Guides ongoing evaluation and review of goals and strategies. § The school development plan is the driver for closing the gap and informs: § Instructional strategies for student learning. § Professional development and professional learning communities. § Requests to parent associations. § Offsite activities. § Residencies.

  9. How Are Your Child’s Learning Needs Being Accommodated? § The school development plan aligns with: § Alberta Programs of Study. § Personalized learning. § The CBE Three-Year Education Plan.

School Results Overview § We currently have 57.7% of students achieving an indicator of 3 or 4 on the June 2019 report cards stems - “Reads to explore, construct, and extend understanding” (Gr. 1-5), and “Uses early literacy strategies to explore, construct and express ideas” (K). § We currently have 61.9% of students achieving an indicator of 3 or 4 across all June 2019 report cards stems in Math. § We currently have the following report card results from the character results stem “Makes responsible decisions”. EM - 9.4%, EV - 56.2%, EX - 34.4%). § We currently have 64.5% of students achieving an indicator of 3 or 4 on the June 2019 report cards stem - “Explores roles and responsibilities to work towards life and learning goals”.

School Development Plan – Theory of Action § If teachers foster a metacognitive learning environment focusing on comprehension, then students will think conceptually and transfer their understanding and ability across disciplines. § If teachers intentionally make visible strategies of perseverance and resiliency in learning, then students will show improved abilities to work through challenging tasks.

  12. School Development Plan – Achievement Goal and Strategies Achievement Goal ( Literacy): Student achievement in reading comprehension will improve across disciplines. Strategies § Students will: § use reading strategies to support comprehension. § self-monitor their reading comprehension using the “stuck" strategy (a metacognitive strategy in which students recognize where and why they are stuck on a task. They become unstuck through discussions, sharing, and teacher/student modelling of possible grade appropriate strategies). § transfer their reading comprehension strategies knowledge across disciplines.

  13. School Development Plan – Achievement Goal and Strategyies Achievement Goal ( Math): Student achievement in problem solving will improve. Strategies § Students will: § use reading strategies to support their math problem solving § self-monitor their reading comprehension in a variety of word problems in math using the “stuck" strategy.

  14. School Development Plan – Achievement Goal and Strategies Achievement Goal ( Well-Being): Students will explore roles and responsibilities in working towards life and learning goals. Strategies § Students will engage in “MindUp” activities to develop strategies for focusing attention, improving self- regulation, building resilience, and developing a positive mindset in school and in life.

School Development Plan – What Success Looks Like Targets (Literacy): § In 2019-20, the percentage of total students with an indicator of 3 an 4 on the June 2020 report card stem “Reads to explore, construct and extend understanding (Kindergarten uses "Uses early literacy strategies to explore, construct and express ideas)” will improve over June 2019 report card data. § There will be an increase in ELL Language Proficiency in reading from January 2020 to June 2020. § There will be an increase of the percentage of students who are able to independently use the “stuck" strategy.

  16. School Development Plan – What Success Looks Like Targets (Math): § In 2019-20, the percentage of total students with indicators of 3 and 4 on the June 2020 report card stem “Number - Develops number sense and applies strategies for computation and estimation” will improve over January 2020 report card data. § In 2019-20, the percentage of students independently using the “stuck" strategy will increase.

  17. School Development Plan – What Success Looks Like Targets (Well-Being): § In the 2019-2020 school year, there will be an improvements over June 2019 results in the percentage of students who are achieving EV and EX in the report card Character results stem “Makes responsible decisions”. § There will be an increase in students who can speak about what their brain is doing using MindUp vocabulary.
