The key features of Outstanding Teaching:

  • 1. Encourage Good Learning Habits

(Responsibility and self-reliance - Students work harder than the teacher!)

  • 2. AfL – Monitor progress throughout the

lesson (Seek proof of understanding)

  • 3. Challenge and support ALL students

(effective differentiation- challenging, not catering!)

  • 4. Enthuse and motivate students (interesting,

engaging work)

Experts say play at work can boost creativity and productivity in people of all ages. “There is good evidence that if you allow employees to engage in something they want to do, (which) is playful, there are better outcomes in terms of productivity and motivation,”

  • Dr. Stuart Brown, founder of the National Institute for Play

Play can also lower stress levels, boost optimism, increase motivation and improve concentration and perseverance. There’s evidence that engaging in play opens up new neural connections in the brain, leading to greater creativity. When fully engaged in play, you lose some psychological barriers and stop censoring your thoughts. At Google, staff are not required to come in to the office - the company has found that people want to spend time there. The Lego station, and scavenger hunts are part of a working day.
