- The new National Curriculum was introduced by the DfE in
2014 for all years except Y2 and Y6.
- From September 2015 all pupils are working from the new
curriculum.
- Reception class work from the Early Years Framework.
- Previous Curriculum was assessed using levels
Year 2 (Expected 2b) Year 6 (4b)
- New Curriculum = No levels – (Year group objectives)
DfES Ethos:
- Depth of knowledge; ability to apply knowledge into other contexts.
- Learn/Master a concept thoroughly before moving on to the next.
- Up to schools to choose their own method to monitor progress
- Previously ‘Above expected’ children moved up to the next level.
- Now work from own year group - improve their depth of understanding through
using/applying skills.
- To ensure challenge we have provided ‘exceeding objectives/targets’
- Can move to a higher year group for spellings, times tables
- There may be some children working from the year group below.
- Gifted &Talent - Next year group may be possible!
A Challenging New Curriculum
What are we doing about assessment without levels?
- Updated our pupil targets to match new curriculum
- Created a set of ‘exceeding objectives’ – depth/challenge
- Purchased a new computer tracking programme (itrack)
- Sats training
- Reporting to parents
- New Baseline assessment for Reception class & Online Learning journey

Example of Y2 expected objective *I can solve problems involving multiplication and division, using materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and multiplication and division facts, including problems in context Example of Y2 exceeding objective *I can add and subtract fractions with a common denominator.

- Results benchmarked across England ‘after being marked’ to find the ‘average’.
- Above 100 = above age-related expectations.
Report on pupils attainment against ‘age related expectations’ for their year group in the July (Summer) report. (Autumn/Spring Reports– focus on children’s achievements and targets)
- Below age related expectations (as usual)
- In-line with age related expectations (as usual)

Rothersthorpe Reporting to Parents
New Curriculum – Increased Challenge!
- To achieve ‘above age related’ - achieve all the ‘expected’ and most of the ‘exceeding
targets’.
- Achieving ‘age-related’ means your child has made excellent progress.
- Achieving ‘Above age-related’ means your child has made ‘exceptional progress’.
- Note: A child may have made excellent progress even if they are working below age-
related expectations. (Relative to starting points).
Progress is Key
- We are in the Top 20 of schools in Northamptonshire for pupil progress.
