What’s Different? Elementary ELA

 Kindergarten standards now have “with prompting

and support”

 Handwriting: Legible print, then cursive  To provide clarification and additional examples

within the standards (of abstract nouns, ex.)

ORIGINAL CCSS REVISED LAFS

ORIGINAL CCSS REVISED LAFS

slide-7
SLIDE 7

What’s Different? Elementary Math

 Grade level

changes as appropriate

 Earlier instruction

  • f money and

measurement

 Embedding

foundations for algebraic concepts

slide-8
SLIDE 8

What’s Different? Secondary Math

 Introduction of Pi as a ratio prior to use in

calculations

 Absolute value functions  Change of base formula, phase shifts, theorems  Aligning specific standards to specific courses rather

than allowing choice

 ORIGINAL CCSS: Standards only up to Algebra 2  REVISED MAFS: Standards adopt Calculus

standards from Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) to be used in Calculus and Pre- calculus classes

Additional Required Assessments for Identified Students

In-Program Assessments

These assessments are required and given at a specific time indicated in the program. These assessments are vital to the success of the program.

  • Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics,

and Sight Words (SIPPS)-for K-2 students who place in the program

  • Early Intervention in Reading (EIR) –for ESE students who

place in the program

slide-26
SLIDE 26

Additional Required Assessments for Identified Students

Ongoing Progress Monitoring/Decision Rules

Students performing below grade level will receive ongoing progress monitoring with 1 of the OPM tools listed below. The data are used for several purposes: to determine if students are making progress in a deficit area, to determine appropriate intervention material, and to assist Problem Solving Teams (PST) with determining eligibility for ESE services.
