ARCTIC BCBN RNG Supply Chain Enhancement Challenge

Key Challenge

} BCBN is seeking technology options and processes that can improve

the economics of the RNG supply chain through conversion of anaerobic digestate into more concentrated and/or higher value

  • products. The objective is to make anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities

more economically viable by addressing technology pain points across the supply chain and, in turn, increasing the overall supply of pipeline- grade RNG in the Province over the long-term.

} This challenge is focused on improving the economics of AD facilities

by converting digestate into more concentrated and/or higher value product(s).

16

slide-17
SLIDE 17

ARCTIC BCBN RNG Supply Chain Enhancement Challenge

RNG Supply Chain Overview

} BC utilities can now pay up to $30/GJ for RNG up to 5% RNG content in the

pipeline

} Expected to drive growth in BC market in the coming years } 20-35 dairy farms with more than 200 milk cows in BC are ideally suited to the

production of RNG

} RNG produced using anaerobic digestion technology } Business case for AD facilities can be improved by finding new market

  • pportunities for digestate through Nutrient Recovery Technologies (NRT) and

the development of market-viable end-products

17

slide-18
SLIDE 18

ARCTIC BCBN RNG Supply Chain Enhancement Challenge

Nutrient Recovery

} Nutrient recovery technologies produce a concentrated nutrient by-product,

and potentially create a higher value co-product which improves the economics of AD facilities

} NRTs can be:

} Mechanical } Biological } Chemical
