Corrective Actions

Worker proximities to the rig training was done with all workers who work around the drill rigs. Example, sampler’s, driller’s, drill helper’s Also, all people wanting to enter the work area of the drill rig, have to contact the driller and ask for permission to enter his work area.

Risk Areas

Risk areas are areas surrounding the drill perimeter that are designated to show the potential risk area. Drillers’-before starting to use the drill, make sure there is nobody inside the risk area of the drill rig.

Specific Working Distances in the Risk Areas of f the Rig

Operating remotely, setting up functions at the drill location, or tramming, the drill operator is to be no closer than 1 meter to the rig. Operating remotely, any other worker is not to be within 3 meters of the drill when it is working, and only after the driller has been contacted and permission given to enter the risk area.

Specific Working Distances in the Risk Areas of f the Rig

For in cab drills and when the drill is drilling in the hole, the drill operator can be closer than 1 meter to the drill, providing that a risk assessment of the area has been done by the drill

  • perator before exiting the cab.

For in cab drills, any other worker is not to be within 3 meters

  • f the drill when it is working, and only after the driller has

been contacted and permission given to enter the risk area.

Drill boom in the air; Life Saving Rule-Never position yourself under a

suspended load. Down slope side of drill rig; Potential energy form- Gravity PPE; Choose the appropriate PPE for the drilling, sampling, and survey task Protective Devices; Make sure protective devices are in place and used. Fit For Work; Maintain a physical and mental state that allows you to perform your job without risk to yourself or others

Conclusion

Always follow the Golden Guide and Life Saving Rules Always request access to drill risk areas. Maintain the safe working distances Follow the general safety information Understand the warning signs and warnings All workers should constantly be assessing our surrounding environment and risks that might be

  • involved. It is something that we should consider in every action we take on a daily basis, from

climbing off the machine, to walking out through the parking lot, to driving home that evening, to walking in that front door; safe and sound and fully intact.
