Thailand Retail Market Opportunities
1. ASEAN Economic Community plans to integrate Southeast Asia into a single market will draw more foreign tourists to Thailand. 2. Thai shopping mall developers plan to invest more than USD2.8 billion over the next 3 years to expand and open new stores as part of a drive to promote Thailand as a regional shopping hub. 3. From this year to 2017, they will expand their retail space from 18 million square meters to 21 million square meters. 4. Thailand is the second largest economy and second largest consumer market in Southeast Asia. With a market of 67.7 million consumers, consumption expenditure takes up more than half of Thailand’s GDP. 5. With the urban shoppers looking for quality and convenience, International convenience store chains, including 7-Eleven, UK-based Tesco Lotus and Japan’s Family Mart, are rapidly expanding in Thailand with more than 110,000 outlets expected in 2020. 6. Community mall or lifestyle malls have become one of the most prominent real estate projects with an estimated increase of 2,000 malls by 2020. 7.
