  1. PRESENTATION ITEM 1 Memo To: Advisory Board of Directors From: Alaina Lofthus, Recreation Services Manager Date: October 17, 2019 Subject: Recreation Activity Reports for July, August, and September 2019 _____________________________________________________________________ Attached are the monthly recreation activity reports for July, August, and September 2019. These reports reflect the number of people using our district facilities, participating in our recreation programs, and attending our special events. Here are some highlights reflected in the reports: • Events: The District had 15 special events during this reporting period highlighted by the 4 th of July Fireworks Show, 10 Concerts in the Park, and Founders Day. Approximately 17,750 people attended the District’s special events. The Playground Opening Event was added in July which drew approximately 100 community members who came out to celebrate and play. • Classes: The summer specific classes had good attendance during this reporting period. The Lego Camp had 21 participants, the Mad Science Camp had 7 participants, and the Summer Reading Program had 16 children participate. The Hoop Dance Happiness class was restructured and is experiencing good attendance. The District’s tennis lessons are becoming more popular with September’s total average daily attendance at 14 compared to 4 in September 2018. The Mommy/Daddy and Me Playdate, as well as the Beginning Tap, were cancelled in August and September as the instructor is no longer teaching the classes. • Youth Development Programs: o Summer Day Camps’ average daily attendance in July for the Voyager Camp (ages 5-8) was 65, for the Explorer Camp (ages 9-11) was 61, and for the Teen Camp (ages 12-14) it was 31 children. This was a slight decrease from July 2018 but still within the division’s goal range. o The Kids Carnival did not run this summer in order to direct District

  2. resources to other special events that attracted a wider range of community members. o Staff restructured the Tiny Tot program calendar and registration procedure to make it more consistent with industry best practices. The program now runs throughout the school year instead of six week classes and a week break in between. Staff believes this change will increase enrollment as well as better meet the needs of the parents. • Sports: The Elementary and Middle School Volleyball Programs both increased in participation this fall. The Elementary Volleyball Program has 43 participants this season compared to 33 in 2018. The Middle School Volleyball Program has 98 participants, an increase of seven from 2018. The Jr. NFL Flag Football League was cancelled this summer due to low registration and scheduling difficulties. The District partners with Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District (FORPD) who had to adjust their program dates and deadlines due to field scheduling conflicts. Those participants registered with the District were still able to play under the FORPD umbrella. • Facility Rentals: The District’s facility rentals were fairly consistent with the number of rentals during this reporting period last year. The main difference was in gymnasium rentals. The Sac Warriors Basketball Club used the gymnasiums last summer due to their regular practice location not being available. This summer, they moved back to their normal location. A youth basketball group, West Coast Youth Sports, reserved both gymnasiums in August and will continue to use the gyms for several more tournaments in the coming months. The John Smith Hall increased the number of rentals during this reporting period from 18 in 2018 to 23 in 2019. The Cypress Room also had a significant increase in the number of rentals during this reporting period from 16 in 2018 to 24 in 2019.
