Objectives Support key diseases of need: • AMD, diabetic retinopathy Lead networks for tertiary care: • Ocular inflammation, macular disorders
Innovation • Increased use of allied health professionals in delivery of care, leading to efficiency savings: nursing, optometrists, technical staff • Care closer to home for patients, many of whom need to attend monthly • Networked electronic health records , imaging, for seamless hub and spoke model • Facilitating increased access to research • Partnership with industry
Progress • Secured funding for capital purchases and staffing via a JWA between UH Bristol NHS Foundation trust and Novartis • Service up and running at South Bristol Community Hospital (SBCH) • Due to commence work in N Somerset outreach within 3 months • Liaison re possible locations for S Glos outreach • Increased research recruitment
Conclusion - Modernising NHS delivery of care - Efficiency savings - Care much closer to patients’ homes - Greater patient satisfaction - Facilitating and increasing research activity - Partnership with industry BEH has a international profile for the delivery of high quality and cost-effective clinical services RENOIR is absolutely central to the future success of retinal service
