  17. Aspen Project Summary Location • Northern Alberta, Canada; 35 km south of Kearl Facility Facilities Overview • Field development using first application of Solvent Assisted – SAGD Cogen/steam technology • 2 phase development with ~75 kbd bitumen processing for each phase, steam generation and cogeneration • 5 initial pads (~60 well pair) and ~40 future pads (~240 well pair) Benefits • Up to 25% reduction in both GHG intensity per barrel and water use Oil Treatment Water Typical Well Pad Tank Farm and De-Oiling Example SAGD Schematic Treatment Source: MEG Energy 2

  19. Challenges and Opportunities • Regulatory Updates • Terminology • Indigenous influence in regulatory process • Regulator Risk Tolerance • Breaking down silos • External factors 4

  20. Pilot Program (EBRT) Testing of an enhanced recovery method called Enhanced Bitumen Recovery Technology (EBRT) • Gravity drainage process • Uses 90% light hydrocarbon oil (diluent) and 10% steam at ultra-low operating pressures • Preparing trial within Aspen project area to demonstrate the process and validate it for commercial use, integrated with Aspen CPF • 2 horizontal wellpairs, in McMurray formation • Expected to recover over 95% of diluent after wind-down Imperial awarded $10M by Emissions Reduction Alberta towards EBRT Process advantages: • Up to 60% reduction in GHG emissions • Up to 90% reduction in water use • Lower operating pressure 5

  21. EBRT Consultation Process • Introduced pilot program after Aspen regulatory approval • Shared high level summary of project with map location to each Indigenous group with overlapping traditional territory (7 groups) • Provided a draft scheme and EPEA application to groups for a technical review • Technical consultants produced memos based on their review to communicate concerns and questions • Workshop at Imperial’s research center discuss questions and concerns; provided a tour of the lab • Adjusted pilot program application based on memos and workshop discussion • Submitted application to regulator 6

  22. Regulatory Considerations - EBRT Pilot Program requires: • Experimental scheme approval • To maintain confidentiality of pilot results, a separate scheme approval required for the pilot • EPEA approval amendment • Pilot integrated into Aspen with steam production and bitumen processing managed at Aspen CPF • Public Lands Act approvals • Well pad, road, pipeline and powerline • Well, Facility and Pipeline Licenses • D56 licences 7
