  • August 2010:N YSED Student Registration Guidance memo
  • December 2014:Revised Commissioner’s Regulation 100.2(y)

. N YSED provides direction and parameters regarding the documents and information that may be used to establish a student’s residency . Prohibits asking for information that might reveal a student’s immigration status . Specifies that efforts should be made to facilitate next day enrollment . Residency matters to be addressed within 72 hours of enrollment

. Moving bill, truck rental bill or furniture delivery bill . Parent/guardian may request a home visit

Registration Office may arrange for a home visit or seek a landlord verification to confirm residency

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

Primary Federal law that provides homeless children with access to education in a stable setting. Eligible students lack a “fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence”.

  • Allows for continued attendance in the school of origin
  • Requires that students are to provided with transportation
  • Provides school district with funds to assist McKinney-Vento eligible students and

families . Families are visited and their status is monitored
