  1. Re- Thinking Chlorine Dioxide Chlorine Dioxide genera/on technology has not been changed since the development of chlorate peroxide systems in the early 2000’s. But this technology has some limita/ons and issues that • leave room for improvement including High excess acid use and disposal costs • Chemical handling safety issues • Low chemical efficiency • High distribu@on costs •

  2. Re- Thinking Chlorine Dioxide Industrial process chlorine dioxide genera/on is nearly 100 % efficient in both Acid and Chlorate use. In paper mills this allows the cost of producing chlorine dioxide to be less than 1.00$/lb. To model a small chlorine dioxide system in this manner requires the process to control the sodium sulfate ( a by product of the chlorate sulfuric acid reac/on). This is a complex endeavor! However, for a small system we do not have to be quite as efficient as the big systems, which greatly minimizes the complexity and allows the modulariza/on of the system.

  3. Re- Thinking Chlorine Dioxide The CD-MAX process controls the salt concentra/on in a self correc/ng manner so we can have: 99 % efficiency of chlorate • Very low acid use • A small size generator that can be modular in design and • flexible in capacity

  4. Re- Thinking Chlorine Dioxide At ChemE solu/ons we developed a method to accomplish these goals and developed a simple generator that: Maintains high chemical reac/on rates and conversion • Controls purging of the reactor contents to maintain • sodium sulfate at levels below satura/on. Controls sodium chlorate levels below .5% to maintain • high conversion efficiency.

  5. Chlorine Dioxide Generators CD-MAX generators from ChemE Solu/ons offer several advantages over current technologies on the market when comparing: • Safety • Efficiency • Chemical Distribu6on • Chemistry choices • Cost • Opera6onal op6ons

  6. ChemE Solu@ons CD-MAX Advantages! • Safety! • The reactant products for CD-MAX units when accidentally mixed, produce liHle chlorine dioxide . • This is completely the opposite with the other forms of chlorine dioxide where the reactants are designed to react within seconds at room temperature

  7. CD-MAX Advantages! Advantages! • Efficiency • Based on plant data to date, the chemical efficiency to produce Chlorine dioxide in a CD-MAX unit is 99%. • Acid use efficiency is 50% beHer than once through chlorate/peroxide systems. Excess acid leaving the generator is 3 @mes less. This save a great deal in neutraliza@on costs in air scrubbers.

  8. CD-MAX Advantages! Advantages! • Distribu@on • The Precursors for the CD-MAX generator are widely distributed. If desired, blends can be easily made locally from commodity chemicals. This would allow the ability to have a two chemical system.

  9. CD-MAX Advantages! • Acid choices • CD-MAX can also use sulfuric acid of any concentra@on. Using concentrated sulfuric acid is actually greatly reduces chemical handling and overall costs.
