The second quarter of 2019, there was a reduction with vehicle thefts of 20%, assault 42% and rape of 50%. We can see in both years of 2018 and 2019 consistent tendency in robbery with 2 cases in both

  • years. There were no homicides reported

for these two years. We have seen a tendency to increase in crimes of

  • pportunity such as larceny; the San

Mateo County Sheriff's Office is aware of this trend and it is working on implementing additional measures to increase safety in the North Fair Oaks area. Part 1 Crimes are the universal standard upon which crime is measured in the United

  • States. Part 1 Crimes are

comprised of the following

  • ffenses: Homicide,

rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, and auto theft. Below is a graph of our Part 1 Crime rate for the years 2018 and 2019.

The downward trend in the violent crimes rates has continued in the second quarter of 2019. Rape was reduced by 50% and assault by 42% contrasted with the same period of 2018. The rate for robberies has remained constant with 2 incidents; same as the same period for

  • 2018. As in previous years, we have not had any homicide

cases in 2019. During this time period, the residential burglaries had remained constant in comparison with 2018 with 3 incidents. We also experienced a reduction of 30% of commercial burglaries with only 2 incidents reported for 2019. The Sheriff’s office is aware of this situation and it continues working on promoting the house check service for residence and safety workshops.

There has been a slight increment in the citations from 2018 to 2019. In the second quarter of 2019 we can see an increment of 16% in parking violations. The moving violations increased at a rate of 33.6%. We can also appreciate and increment by 2 in the number of citations for bicycles during this period. We have focused on education and awareness to the community. We still have challenges with more people living under one roof and some businesses parking vehicles into the neighborhoods.

respond in a rapid and efficient way; specially when crime tendencies increase, or we notice new crime

  • trends. Our goal is to -maintain communication with the community members and business owners to act

proactively,

  • Engaged Community: We have continued to present our usual programs in the community such as Coffee

with the Community, Community Dialogues, Community Academies, Parenting Classes, Youth Academies, and Community Barbeques; as well as, new programs such as the Pacific Islander Youth Academy and the Camera Registry Program. Our Deputies continue foot patrol, proactive patrol and read to children at the library to reinforce the bond with our community. We strive at strengthening and nurturing the relationship between law enforcement and the community. We are committed to serving the Community of North Fair Oaks.

  • Use of Technology to Improve our Services in the Community: In preparation for the 4th of July the San

Mateo County Sheriff's Office run an investigation on Shotspotter and organized a campaign to prevent the public from usage of illegal fireworks and illegal gunfire. Banners were place on public view to make people aware of this efforts. The campaign included door-to-door efforts distributing door hangers, as well as, informational fliers throughout the community. Two sign trailers were on display in the area and a press campaign was promoted in English and in Spanish on social media. On the fourth of July, Deputies were assign specifically for prevention and enforcement of this regulations. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office worked in collaboration with the Menlo Park Fire District, and the Redwood City Police Department.
