  1. QEEG Analysis of C3-Beta Protocol Dr. Kenneth Kang Spectrum Learning Pte Ltd Spectrum of Life

  2. Rationale for this Study • Exploratory study arising from wanting to understand more about neurofeedback (brain exercise) • In neurofeedback, we usually train one to two locations • Clients reported different effects of neurofeedback while using the same training protocols • This led me to wonder how each client is using his/her brain while doing the same training protocol • A search into the literature revealed that they are no studies published on this topic • Most publications are on the use of QEEG to guide neurofeedback training protocols or the efficacy of specific protocols for specific conditions

  3. What is QEEG? • QEEG = Quantitative Electroencephalogram • Also known as Brain Mapping • A procedure that records neural activities of the brain simultaneously from at least 19 locations on the scalp. • The simultaneous measurement is the key so that we can understand how the brain work as a whole

  4. QEEG – Data Acquisition • Raw EEG data from QEEG Data Acquisition

  5. QEEG Analysis – Frequency Domain • Spectral Analysis of EEG Data

  6. Types of EEG Waves

  7. Types of EEG Waves – Topograph

  8. What is Neurofeedback? • Neurofeedback = Brain exercise • Brain wave is measured at a specific site and analysed • The analysed information is represented back to the client in a novel and meaningful way • The clients becomes aware of what goes on in his/her brain • Clients learns how to control/regulate brain activities at the site of measurement

  9. What is Neurofeedback? • The client’s EEG is analysed and monitored in real -time • Training parameters are set for each clients • The analysed information is represented back to the client in a novel and meaningful way – can be in the form of a computer game

  10. QEEG Analysis of Neurofeedback • Experiment set up to look at C3-Beta training • Use existing neurofeedback equipment • Use the QEEG equipment that we use for all QEEG analysis • No new equipment was introduced

  11. Subjects: 3 Normal Adults • Subject A: • 38 yo Male with no condition (Medical doctor) • Protocol: C3 • Reward Beta • Inhibit Delta, Theta and high-Beta • Subject B: • 25 yo Female with no diagnosed condition (graduate) • Protocol: C3 • Reward Beta and high-Beta • Inhibit Delta and Theta • Subject C: • 24 yo Male with no diagnosed condition (graduate) • Protocol: C3 • Reward Beta and high-Beta • Inhibit Delta and Theta

  12. QEEG Profile of Subject A: • Normal but fatigue profile

  13. QEEG Profile of Subject B: • Fatigue profile • ADHD profile (excessive Theta subtype)

  14. QEEG Profile of Subject C: • Mild ADHD profile (excessive Theta subtype)

  15. Training Trend at C3 – Subject A • Slow Waves • Inhibit: Delta and Theta

  16. Training Trend at C3 – Subject A • Fast Waves • Reward: Beta and Hi-Beta
