As little as possible, as much as necessary Prudent Use of Antimicrobials • Treatment guidelines (1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd choice AM to avoid routine use of CIAs ) • Susceptibility/diagnostic tests (often mandatory for CIAs to show no suitable alternatives exist) => map regional trends (Résapath) • Benchmarking =>comparing quantity of AM in same farming sector and thresholds => max use of AM at each stage of production. (sufficient flexibility to avoid AW issues required)

Restrictions on use • Specific restrictions on use of CIAs => e.g. susceptibility /diagnostic tests; bans on prophylactic and metaphylactic use etc. • Updated advice on colistin =>withdrawal of VMPs and voluntary initiatives • Off-label use (dosage above SPC)=> different approaches • New Medicated Feed Regulation potential ban on preventive use • New VMP Regulation prophylaxis and metaphylaxis being discussed

Does it work? And What does work? MS with previously very high use of • antimicrobials noted a decrease of 58% Voluntary initiatives => in the • absence of regulations changes should be driven by the veterinarians and farming stakeholders Benchmarking of thresholds • schemes (policies, penalties)

One Health approach  Good cooperation between vet and human health sectors (or blame game?)  MS priority to develop and implement One Health national AMR action plans  Alarming AMR data and levels of Abs use in some MS in both animals and humans  Reduce AM use without jeopardising AHAW, farm productivity, profitability?  Impact of vet prudent use activities seen in some AMR monitoring data ?
