What We Know Today…

  • In order to compete in a 21st century global economy,

Pennsylvania needs a highly-educated and proficient workforce.

  • The current year’s U.S. workforce is facing a shortage of

12 million qualified workers for the fastest-growing job sectors including health care, information services, and Engineering - Mining specific. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)

  • This will make it imperative that all students - both

enrolled and out of school - have the skills and education to meet this shortage.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

  • An AP student receives the maximum preparation for

college

  • Students may be exempt from taking certain courses in

college with an AP test grade of 3 or higher. The AP test is a comprehensive test given at the conclusion of the AP course. Five is the highest grade a student may earn on the exam

  • Students may be eligible for honors and special

programs in college for being an AP student in high school

  • Requires summer work & extensive homework
  • AP students receive a GPA weight of .2 for having a

final grade of a C or higher

  • Cost for each exam is approximately $90.00

Concurrent Enrollment (CE)

  • High school students are able to take

college courses and receive high school credit as well as college credit.

  • Students can take concurrent enrollment

courses at the high school in an approved concurrent enrollment course.

  • This opportunity is in partnership

with Montgomery County Community College.

Why Take CE Courses?

  • Students get the experience of taking a college

course while still receiving the support from the high school

  • Students get an early start on the courses

required at college

  • CE credits transfer to all the state universities

and other institutions that have partnerships with the community college

  • CE students receive a GPA weight of .1 for

having a final grade of a B- or higher

  • Parents save money! The cost of CE

credit is reduced @ $190.00 per 3 – 4 credit course

End-Of-Course Assessments (EOCA’s)

  • Are administered in all courses at BASH (except

Keystone Trigger Courses & AP Courses if AP exam is taken)

  • At the conclusion of the school year

administered via an EOCA schedule for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, & World Language

  • All related study courses administered during

class time at the conclusion of the course

  • Constitute twenty (20) percent of a course’s final

grade

  • Currently administered in the following courses

– Algebra I – English Literature (English 10) – Biology (Biology 9/10)

  • Re-takes administered in December & May

through a student’s Junior year

– Student will be required to attend remediation (for below proficient area identified by Keystone Exam results) during FLEX

  • Cards will be collected during Social Studies

Six-Day Cycle and Class Load

  • BASH uses a six-day cycle with 8 possible

instructional periods and a FLEX per day.

  • TOTAL CREDITS MUST ADD UP TO A

MINIMUM OF 7.0 CREDITS AND A MAXIMUM OF 8.0 CREDITS.

Promotion Policy Guidelines

Minimum credit attainment: In order to be eligible to graduate within 4 years (9-10-11-12) at BASH, it is required that you carry and pass the following minimum number of credits, accumulating them as follows:

  • 9th Grade - 6 credits
  • 10th Grade - 12 credits
  • 11th Grade – 17 credits
  • 12th Grade - 24 credits

A student is eligible for graduation at the end of his/her twelfth grade school year when all graduation requirements are fully completed.

*If a student fails to accumulate 24 credits, complete his/her career portfolio or BCTC senior project graduation requirement, and other requirements set forth by the state of Pennsylvania & BASH by the end of the twelfth grade school year, he/she will be not walk at commencement or receive a diploma. If a student fails to meet the recommended credits necessary for promotion, he/she will be retained in the grade-level homeroom based on credits earned.
