  2. What is a Program Advisory Committee? It is a representative group of individuals whose interest, experience and abilities represent a close relationship to a particular career cluster and pathway that will advise, recommend improvements and provide direction for the program

Need for Program Advisory Committee  To provide an opportunity for discussion among people in education, business and industry  To focus on how to improve CTAE and make the most of the community resources that are available  To strive to improve the relationship between CTAE, business and industry  To provide expertise to the program by reviewing curriculum, facilities, budget, student competencies, student placement in related occupations

Functions of a Program Advisory Committee  Encourage students to pursue careers/ education after graduation  Provide the means to ensure that the curriculum is relevant to business and industry  Create partnerships between program and business/ industry  Provide public awareness of CTAE programs

  6. Curriculum and Instruction  Identify and expand the use of new technologies  Advise on labor market needs and trends  Review, recommend and assist in obtaining instructional materials  Recommend safety policies and procedures  Advise on required academic skills needed in the workplace

  7. Program Review  Review and recommend program’s vision, mission, goals and objectives  Participate in program evaluation and accreditation  Assess, recommend and/ or provide equipment and facilities  Evaluate the quality and quantity of graduates and job placement

  8. Recruitment and Job Placement  Assist in recruiting new staff and potential students  Provide cooperative work experiences, internships and apprenticeships  Assist students in developing resumes and interviewing skills  Assist in placing graduates  Assist with career days and job fairs

  9. Student Organizations – CTSO’s  Assist in developing and judging competitive skill events  Sponsor student organizations activities and assist in fundraising  Evaluate student portfolios and/ or end of course exams

  10. Professional Development  Provide in-service activities for instructors  Conduct workplace tours  Provide instructors with retraining/ back to industry and summer opportunities for technical upgrading  Support staff attendance at conferences

Community/ Public Relations  Interpret the CTAE program to employers, community and the media  Present program to community/ civic groups  Establish recognition program for outstanding students  Promote program events  Assist in development & distribution of promotional materials  Provide class speakers from business and industry

  16. Education Com m ittee The education committee is responsible for the Chamber’s efforts involving the relationship between the local business community and our local school system. This includes our Partners in Education program, internships, apprenticeships and mentoring. Partners in Education is a cooperative effort of the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and the Rockdale County Public School System. The program is focused on promoting opportunities for the local business community to become involved with our local schools. Each year the Chamber recognizes a Partner of the Year at our Annual Meeting. For 2013, our proud winner was The Kroger Company. Are you interested in serving on the Education Committee?
