Project Objective
- Eskom has identified the need for an integrated turbine vibration diagnostic
system to support the running fleet in plant performance evaluation, risk management and outage planning.
- The solution provided must provide a flexible approach to allow interfaces to
the current turbine vibration monitoring equipment.
- The solution needs to support the station condition monitoring concept which
provide for a centralised station condition monitoring network at each station.
- The turbine diagnostic system will provide access to the turbine vibration
diagnostic information at station level as well as enterprise level.
- The solution for the fleet turbine vibration diagnostic system must provide a
long term cost effective solution which are maintainable and supported for seven years.
- The solution needs to replace the current fleet obsolete turbine vibration
diagnostic system.

Key Criteria
- The solution provided must address the project objectives and conform to the
requirements of the Works Information.
- The main Tenderer must provide confirmation of the proposed turbine vibration
diagnostic system’s OEM support and approval from the OEM on proposed turbine vibration diagnostic system solution.
- The turbine vibration diagnostic solution need to be designed, supplied, installed
and commissioned by an experienced contractor.
- The Tenderer is responsible for the conceptual design, final design, installation,
commissioning and optimisation of the turbine vibration diagnostic system at all indicated power stations as well as enterprise solution.

gateway hardware with existing vibration monitoring racks.
- 2. Supply and
commissioning of Turbine Network to the Generator network switch.
Interface requirements
- Interface between the existing unitised vibration monitoring system and unitised
vibration diagnostic network switch. This interface can be hardwired or a communication interface and is referred to as a gateway within the WI. Refer to appendix B1 and B2 of the WI.
- Interface between unitised vibration diagnostic network switch and station
generator condition monitoring network. The tenderer provide for the required fiber optic cabling as well as extension cards to the condition monitoring unitised network switches. The unitised vibration diagnostic network switched is installed within new individual unitised network cabinets. The Tenderer need to confirm the tenderer’s network requirements to confirm compatibility with existing station condition monitoring network.
- Interface between Eskom vibration diagnostic server and Eskom Enterprise
- Historian. Interface need to be configured utilising OPC protocol. Refer to
Appendix C of WI.
