Preparing your service for implementation Antonia Bunnin

27 June 2014

slide-2
SLIDE 2

Starting point – think about:

  • Who to involve in my service or organisation?
  • Who might champion this work, internally?
  • Who is already involved in collecting or analysing data?
  • Who is comfortable with data, and can see the value of using

data to inform decision-making?

  • How might involvement and implementation build on our

existing ways of working and systems?

slide-3
SLIDE 3
  • HtH and CSI are working together – want to find

ways to support and encourage hospices and other palliative care providers from across the sector to take part

  • We recognise that not everyone will feel able to

commit to full implementation, or to move to implementation at the same pace

slide-4
SLIDE 4
  • We propose: three levels of involvement
  • You choose to start at the level that is right for

you and your organisation

  • These proposals are still in development, we

will refine in light of your feedback

slide-5
SLIDE 5

First Level:

  • Sign up to receive information and regular updates
  • Get invitation to events
  • Become part of 'the community of interest' around

these data and outcome measures

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Second Level - as with Level 1 but also...

  • Receive e-learning materials, training resources
  • Remote support in how to input the data
  • Expected to attend some learning exchange events
  • Expected to submit data to a central database
  • Receive recommendations on how to improve quality of your

data

  • You might not implement all the measures straight

away...more phased approach?

slide-7
SLIDE 7

Third Level - as with Level 1 and 2 but also...

  • Receive ongoing support from a Quality Improvement

Facilitator (QIF)

  • Some staff receive F2F training, on 'train the trainer' basis
  • Expected to then train relevant staff internally
  • Expected to implement the measures and submit data
  • Your data will be analysed, you receive individual site report
  • Over time, your data will be used for benchmarking, and that

will be shared with you...will take time to get to this point

What next?

  • These ideas still in development – we want to gauge whether

this is the right approach, and the degree of interest

  • HtH and CSI exploring how we can work together to create

teams needed to support (QIF-type roles, data analyst, etc.)

  • Will be costs involved – we are working through; probably

subscription model with different cost for each level of involvement

slide-9

If you are interested...

  • Please feedback to us, help us develop our proposals
  • Please register your interest at oacc@kcl.ac.uk
  • Tell us what level you’d be interested in
  • There is no commitment at this stage
  • Start to think about who to involve in your organisation: who

might lead and drive this work internally? Those staff members will be a crucial resource, will need to commit time to ‘make it happen’.

We are...

  • Working with NHSE, PHE, NCPC and other partners to

ensure national coherence

  • Working up the proposals (and costing), taking

account of your feedback

  • Hoping to launch the levels of involvement in early

2015

  • Looking forward to getting your feedback, and

working with you
