Piece of Mind is an online literary magazine that features the works of emerging writers and artists and we are looking for submissions from YOU ! The student-driven online journal is published once a year in late April/early May.


  1. Piece of Mind is an online literary magazine that features the works of emerging writers and artists and we are looking for submissions from YOU !

  2. The student-driven online journal is published once a year in late April/early May. • Submissions, which include literary and artistic works such as poetry, fiction, nonfiction, music, and visual art, are selected in a multi-committee system by our student selection committee. • It is our goal to showcase the talents of Mountain Ridge students.

  3. We are looking for the following: • Fiction, Poetry, Creative Non-Fiction (Memoirs), Screenplays/Short plays/Monologues, Song Lyrics, Photography, Artwork, Color or B&W reproductions of 2D and 3D art (ceramics, paintings, sculpture, drawing, etc.), Fashion pictures/drawings, Comics, and Miscellaneous Artwork/Creativity.

  4. Want to submit something? • All submissions are due prior to March 1, 2016. To submit your work, please send it to mrhspieceofmind@gmail.com. Be sure to attach all the work you wish to submit to the e-mail. Please include an author biography and a photo (optional), which will be included on your page should your work be chosen for publication. If your work is accepted we reserve the right to make minor superficial changes (ie: grammar, punctuation, etc.). You will be contacted should your work require more than basic edits. We accept simultaneous submissions.

  7. How to submit creative writing: I. You must be a Mountain Ridge high school student. II. All writers/artists must include one cover page with your submission(s) with your name, email address, and a classification of your piece(s) (i.e. poetry, fiction, photography, etc.) DO NOT put your name or any other identifier (e.g. email, student ID number) anywhere but on the cover page. Placing identifiers on your works makes it more difficult for the selection process to remain anonymous, fair, and unbiased. III. Below you will find the specific requirements for the different types of submissions: • Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction (Memoirs): Up to four (4) fiction/creative non-fiction stories per school year. Two stories may be 10 pages or shorter, double spaced, Two flash pieces 5 pages or shorter, double spaced. All documents should be double-spaced with a 12 point font, in either Times New Roman or Arial. Please attach your document as a .doc or .docx file. • Poetry/Song Lyrics: Up to six (6) poems/song lyrics may be submitted (no longer than two pages each) per publishing period. All poems must have a title and should be submitted in the form and style in which it would be published. Poems may be single spaced, but should be 12 point font, in either Times New Roman or Arial. Please attach your document as a .doc or .docx file. • Screenplays/Short Plays/Monologues: Up to two (2) scripts may be submitted per publishing period. A maximum of a 10 page script can be submitted. All documents submitted should be double-spaced with a 12 point font, in either Times New Roman or Arial. Please attach your document as a .doc or .docx file. • Comics: Up to two (2) comics may be submitted per publishing period. A maximum of 20 panels is permitted per submission. Please attach your document as a .doc, .docx or .pdf file (if you need to submit in another format, please contact Ms. Borchers at elisabeth.borchers@dvusd.org).
