PHASE III REOPENING PLAN

  • Phase III plan for WPS has been established in compliance with the

“Recovery, Redesign, and Restart” guidance from the VDOE.

  • There are lots of questions and we have established a process for

administrators to ask and receive answers from Central Office. Answers will be vetted through the Central Office Leadership Team to ensure that consistent answers are provided to all administrators.

TIMELINE

  • June 9th- Governor released the ”Recovery, Redesign, and Restart” guidance

document

  • June 9th-11th- Division Leadership Team reviewed guidelines and began to develop a

framework to guide the Leadership Academy work

  • June 11th- Division Superintendents met from Staunton, Augusta, and Waynesboro
  • June 17th-18th- Reviewed and refined the plan for reopening with administrators at

Leadership Academy and identified next steps for engaging stakeholders

  • June 19th- Phase III Draft Plan was sent to identified stakeholders
  • June 23rd- Stakeholder feedback returned to Central Office by 5pm via email

  • June 24th-25th- Division Leadership Team refined the plan based on

stakeholder feedback

  • June 26th- Plan will be released to the community and the media
  • July 6th-24th- Preparation for school specific plan implementation by

principals and their staff

  • July 28th- Teachers return to their work site
  • August 18th- 2020-2021 School Year begins for students (in-person or

remotely)

WHAT IS REMOTE LEARNING?

  • Packets- Paper and Pencil
  • Online- Computer and Internet access to course materials
  • Virtual- Real time connection to a teacher and students (Zoom, office hours,

discussion boards)

CANVAS AND VIRTUAL VIRGINIA

  • Canvas provides a consistent platform from which courses/classes can be
  • ffered
  • Canvas will communicate with our Student Information System.
  • Canvas will allow teacher to use previously created materials.
  • Virtual Virginia contains state aligned curriculum K-12.
  • Canvas and Virtual VA have partnered to enable teacher to create

standards aligned content.

  • Training will be available to staff beginning in July.

FAMILY SURVEY

  • The school division created a family survey to gather feedback about the

proposed reopening plan. Families were asked to complete a separate survey for EACH student enrolled in a WPS school.

  • Secretaries, teacher volunteers, etc. have been busy contacting each family

by phone who has not completed the survey. While on the call, the secretary or volunteer will complete the online form for the family.

  • The school division created a staff survey. All staff members need to

complete a survey.

  • 410 employees have completed the survey as of June 24, 2020 at 6pm.

Administrators are contacting employees who have not had a chance to complete the survey.

  • The results are being reviewed by the Reopening Leadership Team.
