Traffic Weather MAP for SC09

• Aim

– Monitor the link usage of the several networks between Japan and the SC venue effectively. – Identify the bottleneck and traffic conflict quickly and easily.

• Tool Behavior

– The weather map software collects the data from perfSONAR service (SNMP MA) – The data is described in NMWG XML format – The software makes traffic weather Map

perfSONAR-based Integrated Network Management Platform

• Overview

– Network measurement system

• Monitor and analyze the network data of multiple metrics, points and time

measured by multiple measurement and estimation method

• Manage the data with appropriate resolution
• Provide the data with perfSONAR protocol
• Visualize the data for the operators and researchers.

– Developed by Kyushu Institute of Technology as JGN2plus research project

– Collect and Analyze

• Collects the data measured by several measurement tools and store it to

database.

• Analyze from multiple measurement data by using network tomography and

such technology and store it to database.

– Consist of multi-domain networks with interconnection

• APAN Member: 18 economics, 27 networks

– Each NOC operates the network with each policy – The big gap exists on the bandwidth of the link

• 10Gbps（optical) ～ several Mbps （satellite）

• Telemedicine, e-learning, eVLBI, HDTV, LiveE, Earth

APAN Network Operational Issue (1/2)

• Issues

It takes much operator’s energy and time when End-to-End performance problems occur in APAN network

• Identify the degradation point not only own network

but also other networks

• Arrange the iperf server with other NOC each time
• Compare measurement data such as link usage among

different format.
