Supporting your child to achieve

  • Please use the Supporting your child with their Learning booklet.
  • Ask them everyday to tell you something new they have learned.
  • Ask them WHY?
  • Develop their independent skills; get them to be responsible for packing

their school bag.

  • Encourage them to read at every opportunity.
  • Encourage them to be brave in class and take risks.
  • Whenever possible, look over homework. Have they taken pride in their

work? Have they invested quality time in their work?

  • Work should be challenging.
  • Re-iterate the need to ask for help, should they require it.

  • At Lord Grey Academy, your child's tutor is the first

port of call.

  • Vertical Tutoring represents the structure of a family

and incorporates peer and tutor support for the individuals in the form.

  • We want your child to enjoy school and be happy.
  • You will have an opportunity to meet your tutor and

to review some of the work they have done so far between the 14th and the 18th October. You child’s tutor will contact you to arrange this consultation.

The Role of the Tutor

slide-14
SLIDE 14
  • Vertical Tutoring puts the learner at the heart of the
  • rganisation.
  • Time for learning conversations (25 minutes each

day).

  • Communicating key messages around learning,

discussing and looking at the News and current affairs, reflecting on their week and exploring some PHSE themes in a supportive environment.

  • Engaging every student – Every Child Matters.
  • Knowing every child as an individual.

What are the advantages of

Vertical Tutoring

slide-15
SLIDE 15
  • Identifying and quickly tackling

underachievement and low level poor behaviour.

  • Heads of House and Assistant Heads of House are

there to support tutors, parents and students.

  • The main method for communication with

students and parents is via the Tutor via email.

  • Embedding peer support e.g. paired and group

work as well as literacy work.

  • For some students this will mean they would be expected to be working below a GCSE

grade 1 in Year 7 or 8.

  • For these students we have created 6 Transition levels, (T1-6), with T6 being just below

the expectations of a GCSE grade 1.

  • So, a student with a ‘Current’ grade or ‘End of Year’ target grade of a T1, T2, T3, T4, T5,
  • r T6 has a grade just below a GCSE grade 1. As these students progress through Lord

Grey ‘Current’ grades and ‘End of Year’ target grades will begin to change to GCSE grades on the 9-1 scale

  • Example for a student who has minimum end of Year 11 target grades of GCSE

grade 5

  • A student with an ‘End of Year’ target of a GCSE grade 1 for Year 7 would begin Year 7

with ‘Current’ grades on the T1-6 scale, and be aiming to achieve a grade 1 at the end of Year 7 to be ‘On track’ to achieve the end of Year 11 target of a grade 5

Year 7 By the end of Half term 2 Year 7 By the end of Half term 4 Year 7 End of Year target Year 8 End of Year target Year 9 End of Year target Year 10 End of Year target Year 11 End of Year target

Is a target fixed?

  • Student targets will be constantly reviewed,

compared to how similar students achieve nationally.

  • The EXPECTED grade is a minimum expectation.
  • Students can be projected by their subject teacher

to achieve higher than their EXPECTED grade (or lower).

  • Students are challenged to achieve beyond their

EXPECTED grade.
