A personal perspective

Some thoughts - and reasons why

š We don’t have all the pieces of the puzzle š Other players have skills that we don’t have š Other players have access to learners/funds/ sectors that we do not have access to. š Partnerships offer a lot of chances to learn new stuff and grow new skills. š Partnerships provide opportunities to reflect on our own practices and take satisfaction in some things that we do rather well.

Some more thoughts

š The government is very keen on partnerships – and they actively promote them. (JVAPs) š They have a wee way to go in practicing what they preach – but that is another story

More about “Set for Life”

š Programme keeps learner at the centre of all delivery. š Focus is on developing strong foundation skills, including L+N, Financial capability and Health and Safety. š The programme allows partners to test new ways of doing things in response to challenges faced š A lot of other subsidiary partners – like Northland Inc. and The local Chamber of Commerce

The mechanics

š A medium to long term initiative. Months and years – as opposed to weeks š Best to be governed by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) š Somebody must have the specific responsibility to manage the partnership – Project leader š It helps to have some sort of governance group/advisory group sitting above the active partners

Conclusions

š Partnerships are the way forward – especially if you want to do something over and above the regular work we do. š Inevitably there will be a report at the conclusion and that is a wonderful way of promoting what we do. Partnerships are a great way of generating good news stories. š Once you have successfully navigated one – you increase the chances of follow up partnership arrangements. You have a successful track record. š If anybody is up for a partnership project – talk to me.
