  6. COUNCIL OF EUROPE MUSEUM PRIZE 2007 International Museum of the Reformation, Geneva Switzerland The museum is housed in the ground floor and basement of Maison Mallet (1722), built by a member of a Huguenot family who found refuge in Geneva. It is on the site of the former cloisters of the Saint- Pierre Cathedral, the spot where the people of Geneva voted to adopt Reformation in 1536. The museum’s aims are to educate visitors about the foundations of the 16 th century Reformation, and also to recount the turbulent history of the men and women who found inspiration in its traditions. The themes of the display include the Bible, the work of Calvin, religious controversy with other Christian traditions, the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, Protestant resistance to fascism, missionary work and the role of women in the ministry. Especially daring is the museum’s effort to visualise some purely theological disputes such as an interactive display on the discussion of predestination. The museum is the first solely devoted to the subject of the Reformation in Europe. It is international both in its contents and the way it operates. This is also the first museum that has brought theological discourse into an exhibition in such a coherent manner. Although it is a religious museum dedicated to one particular branch of Christianity, it demonstrates a high degree of religious tolerance . 6
