By creating shortcuts you only type the variable information and this ensures clinical notes are customised for each patient while minimising typing of common text. Hold the shift key and the number 6 on your keyboard to type the caret (^). Variable information relevant to each patient can then be entered at each ‘caret’. Move quickly between ‘carets’ by pressing Control F5.

Tip: Bigger practices may like to create a group (Setup, Configuration) and if message is linked to patient, staff can open patient record to see if instruction in message has been completed.

Patient is selected from the message. To view all messages choose View, Patient Messages from patient record.

Tip: You can set the To-do list to automatically display as you log on, log off or close BP. This can be handy as a final reminder of something you had intended to do that day. Setup > Preferences > General.
