Overview of Research and Approach

1

  • To identify which pneumonia diagnostic tools should be tested in the field in Cambodia,

Ethiopia, South Sudan and Uganda

  • Identify product features are most important in a pneumonia diagnostic tool for community

health workers in low income countries Key objectives

  • Quantitative interview lasting approximately 30 minutes
  • MaxDiff methodology used to assess product attribute importance

Research Approach

SLIDE 2

Anchored Max Diff methodology

  • Uses a simple exercise that requires respondents to make a more critical assessment of attribute

importance than do traditional importance measures

Instead of rating each attribute individually, respondents see several at one time based on a Latin Square (balanced order and pairing) design;

Additionally, each attribute is exposed and reacted to three times which provides a more robust evaluation than a one-time assessment; In this study, we also used an anchored Max Diff approach. Respondents were also asked for each group of statements, whether:

All of them were important

None of them were important

Some were important, some were not

For the next part of the questionnaire, you will see a series of attributes which may apply to either current or future diagnostic tools for pneumonia. On each screen you will be asked which one of the five attributes you would consider to be the most important and which

  • ne of the four attributes would be the least important from your own point of view.

You will also be asked to consider for each group of attributes, whether: All of them are actually very important None of them are actually that important Some attributes shown are more important than others This exercise will be repeated 12 times. Please see below for an example of the exercise: Of these five attributes, please specify which one is the most important and which one is the least important for a tool diagnosing pneumonia symptoms in children by community health workers in low income countries. Most Least Important Important

  • Attribute 1
  • Attribute 2
  • Attribute 3
  • Attribute 4
  • Attribute 5
  • For the five attributes above, please also specify whether:
  • All of them are actually very important
  • None of them are actually that important

 Some attributes shown are more important than others Please only select one

  • ption

Please select one option as most important and

  • ne option as your least

important

Please note scores indices are relative to each other. E.g. Attribute 1 is seen as more than 13.2 times more important than Attribute 11
