Coach Norman Dale from Hoosiers, shares the following things...

  • Forget about the crowd (parents & grandparents screaming!)

**

  • Don’t worry about the other team’s fancy uniforms
  • Focus on the FUNdamentals
  • Don’t worry about winning or losing
  • Focus on being the best YOU can be with effort &

concentration

  • No matter what the scoreboard says, if we can do all of

that...you will all be winners!

What can you do? 6 small things that could have BIG effects (avoid 1%): 1. Pre-Game Meeting - Share hopes and critical team info 2. Stop the game & meet if something is wrong or doesn’t feel right (coaches, referee, & adult scorekeeper if applicable). Address an issue as early as possible TOGETHER (easy thing to do to avoid major problems = stop & talk) 3. Try to give an issue 24 hours to settle so all parties can reflect on it before we react … unless the issue is a “slam-dunk-no-brainer” problem 4. Know, teach and follow our game rules (your responsibility as head coach) 5. Know that unfortunately blowouts happen (this happens at all levels) 6. Respect and Tolerate different coaching styles (loud does not equal bad)
