First Suspension Bridge in SF - 1892 - 1928
Built for the safety of pedestrians crossing Middle Drive (east) [now Nancy Pelosi Dr.] from Main Drive to the Band Shell and Children’s Quarter. Constructed by the John Roebling Sons & Co., cable contractors for the Brooklyn Bridge (1869-83) and later, the Golden Gate Bridge (1933-37), using 11/2” diameter steel cable.

Quarry Lake would be renamed Lilly Pond. Today it is a secluded body of water, between JFK Drive and Nancy Pelosi Drive. A short cut from Conservatory Valley to the Aids Memorial Dell, Tennis Courts, Lawn Bowling or the Children’s Quarter.
