NZEBs: Key Challenges • Only a handful of net zero buildings in the country • Small number of design professionals who are technically equipped • Lack of awareness emerged • Dearth of information • High cost of solar and building integration • Net metering and feed-in tariff still nascent • No clear policies on NZEBs • No institutional and regulatory mechanisms. • Limited interaction between the government, design community, research institutions, developers, manufacturers, financial institutions, and end users. MEMBERSHIP • Open to all private and public companies, institutions, associations, and individuals • Demonstrate commitment to NZEB goals, share knowledge, contribute to activities, and strengthen the collaboration • Core members : financial, institutional, and/or technical support • regular members : strengthen the alliance PACE-D TA Program 15

INSTITUTIONAL SETUP • Hosting - Member organization • Host organization will house the alliance center and will take responsibility as a secretariat • PACE-D TA team will act as the co – secretariat • The secretariat will move every few years to other organizations/institutions PACE-D TA Program 17

FUTURE OWNERSHIP • Host organization will take the ownership of the alliance during the PACE – D program ALLIANCE SUSTENANCE • Option 1 : • the host will be re-appointed once every three years • selection with the consensus of the then alliance members or through the EOI process of selection. • the alliance center will be re-established under the newly appointed host PACE-D TA Program 18

  19. • Option 2 : • The alliance develops itself into an autonomous entity (a non-profit organization) • Function as an entity with full time appointed officials (president, secretary and treasurer) • Will also have a board of directors comprising of experts from the field of EE, RE technologies and green buildings PACE-D TA Program 19

PORTAL SUSTAINABILITY • PACE-D TA program will host the portal • host responsibility and ownership will be transferred to a fully functional alliance center • the host will be responsible for updating and maintaining the portal • funding for the initial development will be availed through the PACE-D TA program • subsequent funding through advertisements on the portal, NZEB alliance funds and/ or sponsors from the building and its allied industries. INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITIONS: SUCCESS STORIES • Department of Energy Solar Decathlon • conducted biennially since 2002 • competition challenges 20 teams selected across different countries • design, build and operate highly efficient solar powered house • Solar Decathlon Europe, Solar Decathlon China 2013, and the U.S. Department of Energy Decathlon PACE-D TA Program 49
