Alarm Processing Definition

  • NFPA Chapter 3- Definitions: Emergency Alarm Processing/ Dispatching-
  • 2013 Version (3.3.34)- A process by which an alarm answered at the communications center is

transmitted to emergency response facilities (ERFs) or to emergency response units (ERUs) in the field.

  • 2016 Version (3.3.38)- A process by which an alarm answered at the communications center

creates a call for service and is transmitted to emergency response facilities (ERFs) or to emergency response units (ERUs) in the field.

  • NFPA Annex A- Explanatory Material: Emergency Alarm Processing/ Dispatching-
  • 2013 Version (A.3.3.34)- This term includes caller interrogation and resource selection [which

emergency response unit (ERU) is going to respond], up to the start of the ERF notification process.

  • 2016 Version (A.3.3.38)- This term includes caller interrogation and resource selection

[determination of which emergency response unit (ERU) will respond], up to the start of the ERF notification process.

NFPA Standard Implementation

  • 4.7.4 Effective Date. All NFPA Standards issued by the Standards Council

shall become effective 20 days after the Standards Council action unless the Standards Council designates a different effective date, or the President determines, within his or her discretion, that the effective date shall be delayed pending the consideration of a Petition to the Board of Directors (see Section 1.7). The President may also, within his or her discretion, refer the matter of a delay in the effective date of the NFPA Standard to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors or to the Board of Directors. 4.7.5 Publication of NFPA Standards. The NFPA shall publish all NFPA Standards once they have become effective.
