LM3 stands for Local Multiplier 3. Local: LM3 looks at a specific local economy or set of local economies Multiplier: The multiplier is an economics concept used to denote how much a specific inflow of income into an area then circulates (or multiplies) in that area 3: LM3 measures the multiplier effect of income into a local economy over three 'rounds' of spending. The tool takes into account: -Round 1- Any organisation’s turnover or project cost including procurement and employee wages and other forms of cost -Round 2- Where and with whom the company spends that money -Round 3 - Where and how suppliers and employees re-spend their incomes
Why local money flows matter The local economy looks a lot like a leaky bucket ! In communities facing economic disadvantage there are two ways to increase the circulation of money: pour more water into the bucket or find ways to ‘ plug the leaks ’

Impact Predictor The Measurement of Sustainable Procurement -Private and community sector users can use the tool to demonstrate indicative economic and employment impacts of their approach for the local economy providing a competitive -By adopting such objective advantage and an evidence methodologies can the public sector base for community benefit realistically expect to deliver real value to the communities that they represent
