Honors Chorus

  • Auditions (about 6 minutes) include: Vocalizing (for range only), Singing vocal

part from audition piece, and sight singing (tracks are available for download to practice the sight singing audition process)

  • Audition results will be sent by email along with Sight Singing from Audition

  • J.W. Pepper will send music packets directly to your school (for teacher and

student(s)) – you don’t have to order, but you do have to pay! You may need to secure a PO number as soon as you have a student selected.

  • Honors Chorus convenes Saturday and Sunday at the beginning of Conference

All-State Chorus

  • To benefit NEW TEACHERS, deadline for registration is December 1
  • Register at All-State Choral Festival
  • $45.00 non-refundable registration fee for each choir. This includes

the required event t-shirt, which is worn in the performance.

  • These fees will be applied to your total fees, which are $45.00 per

seated student due by All-State Coordinator’s designated postmark deadline.

  • Allotments are assigned by enrollment. You’ll know your allotments

by Jan. 1 and will have to submit your registration fee balance no later than Feb. 1. Any schools submitting with a post-mark date after

  • Feb. 1 will incur a $25.00 late fee.
  • When submitting chorus program enrollment, count each student
  • nly once no matter how many classes they are in!

All-State Chorus

  • You choose which choirs you participate in.
  • You select your singers for up to three choirs this year:

TTBB (9-12), SSA (9-12), SATB (9-12)

  • You must assign one student to each voice part in a choir before you can

duplicate a voice part assignment. Students in the SATB choir must be prepared to sing both divisis for their part. (All Sopranos in the SATB choir should be able to sing Soprano 1 and Soprano 2, for example)

  • Programs with 24 or fewer students may not be guaranteed a slot in every

choir, and will be refunded registration fees if their enrollment is not sufficient to allow for one slot in every choir.

  • Your students must attend a three hour District Rehearsal.
  • All-State convenes in Charlotte in April/May

All-State Chorus

  • Your school must have participated in an MPA within the last

two years: Solo/Small Ensemble or Large Ensemble

  • Two exceptions: 1. New School or 2. Teacher’s 1st year at the

school – if the school went to MPA last year and you have the information, go ahead and submit it!

  • Once you receive your allotments, select your students and
  • rder your music. J.W. Pepper has the repertoire lists, but you

are responsible for acquiring the music.

  • Singers are screened, so make sure they know their stuff!

Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) LARGE ENSEMBLE

  • Register with your Site Chairperson by February 1
  • Registration is ONLINE ONLY
  • Go to Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) and click on MPA Calendar for

Repertoire List

  • $125.00 per ensemble
  • No size limitation (small ensemble is considered up to 24)
  • Perform two memorized selections: One MUST be from the MPA Approved

Repertoire List, the other can be off the list, but of comparable difficulty (exception: Comments Only or Grade 1, in which case BOTH songs should be OFF the list)

  • Sight singing is optional: one rhythmic exercise and one singing exercise in a

voicing/difficulty level selected by the choral director, The difficulty levels do not need to be the same for both types of sight singing.

  • “Retired” sight singing is available online through Bethany Jennings.

Hall of Fame Inductees

a. Served as an active director of high school choral music education in North Carolina public or private schools for a period of ten years or more. b. Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of choral music on the high school level. Evidences would include consistent high ratings at adjudicated choral festivals; participation in diverse choral experiences (All-County, All-State, Honors Chorus, performances in U.S. cities or abroad, etc.) c. Made significant contributions to the improvement of choral music education and the betterment of the profession, including holding positions of leadership and/or service in professional organizations. d. Demonstrated high ideals and professional integrity during the time of service.
