  1. ND CDR: MPD Chapter 2019/12/17 J. Raaf

  2. ND CDR timeline guidance from Mike & Steve • January 6: First drafts of chapter contributions due • Goal: Edit and have first draft to collaboration by end of January (at collaboration meeting) • Primary chapter authors (with input from others): 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 2

  3. To-Do’s from last week • Quantitative assessment of converted pairs and ECAL backgrounds (Leo) • Truth-level quantification of number of asymmetric e+e- pairs • Add quantified neutron study to text (Eldwan) • Nue selection cuts w/quantified efficiency & purity (Tanaz) • Plots of 1/2/3-pion samples in HPgTPC (Andy F. + Andrew/Fan) • Seb Jones showed some plots in the LBL meeting yesterday that may also be good to include, but these do not have the full overlay or improved parameterized reconstruction (https://indico.fnal.gov/event/22670/contribution/2/material/slides/0.pdf) 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 3

  4. Seb’s 2 𝜌 /3 𝜌 • HPgTPC samples could make it obvious is there is a problem with our interaction model (e.g. if data looked like NuWro and our model looked like GENIE) 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 4

  5. Additional to-do’s from internal reviewer comments on CDR lite • Introduction is “long, unfocused, internally redundant, and filled with qualitative arguments in lieu of quantitative ones” • Restructure to focus on one or two “killer apps”: • Show resolution and pointing accuracy, etc., of muons leaving LAr • Quantitative demonstration of nue/nuebar separation • Possibly “something with charged pion ID or low proton thresholds” • “The low secondary interaction rate is a feature” • Show it as a function of KE • The “argument about pi0 backgrounds is unconvincing without a simulation” • Needs a study that takes into account asymmetric pion decays and uses realistic efficiencies for the ECAL to identify these. • What is the efficiency of finding the second photon from NC pi0 events as a function of the energy of the other photon? 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 5

  6. Internal reviewer comments on CDR lite “Ks and lambda calibration certainly work at colliders. Are there sufficient statistics for this to be useful here?” 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 6

  7. Internal reviewer comments on CDR lite • “Fig 32: the most relevant region is 0-250 MeV. Should be zoomed in there and more points should be added.” 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 7

  8. Internal reviewer comments on CDR lite • “ECAL energy and angular resolution are great. Should add reconstruction efficiency, which is presumably high at most of these energies, so focus on < 100 MeV” 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 8

  12. Other analyses matured since CDR-lite • CC coherent pions • Ready for CDR? • Leo has written up a short summary note à to do: turn into CDR-level text (jargon-free, clear, etc.) • Multi-pion samples in MPD • Overlay & sample generation in progress by Andy/Tanaz • MPD plots not yet made (Andy + U Pitt student/postdoc?) • Can we have at least rough versions of plots by next week (before people start disappearing for holidays) so we can figure out what text to write about them? • ECAL studies? 2019/12/17 J. Raaf | CDR MPD chapter to-do's 12
