q Since the launch of its civilian-led government , Myanmar
has set its national development vision as the successful landing of a market economy. To this end, the country has specified the promotion of investment and trade and the expansion of private investment as its economic policy goals.
q The current government of Myanmar aims to achieve
people-centered, inclusive and sustainable development, where economic development serves “national reconciliation,” prioritizing job creation, diversifying its economy away from the natural resource sector, and “balanced development” across states and regions.

Myanmar’s Economic Development Policy
q The Myanmar government has recognized the important
role export can play to achieve these goals. Export promotion has received significant attention as a tool for economic development, along with FDI attraction, SME promotion, Special Economic Zones (SEZs)
- development. A range of new laws and amendments
have been introduced under the previous government to support these strategies since 2011 and the reform will continue under the current government. It enacted a new revised SEZs Law in 2014.
