Questions ?

Are the EQ devices (Multi-Chamber Arrester) really useful as Medium Voltage line and what are the benefits?

  • Technically useful? Benefits?
  • Withstand lightning density?

Can this device actually withstand the level of lightning density and amplitude of high lightning area line Asian region?

  • Work in various configuration?

Can the device work in the various configuration of neutral earth arrangement, pole and cross-arm design of the different countries?

  • Cost efficiency ?

What performance can we really expect in terms of cost?

Conclusion

  • SmartArresters have been installed on various networks over a year WW. The example in Asia, high

lightning density areas, show promising results in terms of lightning withstand,

protection of covered conductor, and reduction of outages due to lightning.

  • SmartArrester protection shows to be a cost efficient solution for the protection of the line

against lightning. Economical study shows very positive results.

  • Covered conductors medium voltage lines even with high CFO (ex. Spacer Cable Systems) remain

strongly affected by lightning.

  • Qualification of accurate performances expectation need still to be made.
