Transitions
We work closely with pre-school settings as well as Ditton Junior School to ensure transitions are as smooth as possible. Miss Coulbault is the Headteacher at Ditton Junior School. We have regular meetings with staff and more in depth meetings with professionals for those children who may find moving settings more difficult. Mrs Boxall and Miss McGinley visit the pre-school settings in Ditton and Miss Coulbault visits our school to lead assemblies. We also arrange some joint training sessions and talk about policies common to all three phases. This year we have purchased a joint scheme of work for PSHE called Jigsaw.
We have good arrangements in place to make the transition from pre-school to school as easy as possible for your child.

Wellbeing
If children are settled and happy they will learn effectively. However, there may be times when children need a little additional support to achieve high levels of wellbeing. Our team are led by Mrs Campbell and can offer help and support children as and when they need it. We can carry out assessments and create bespoke programmes reflecting the individual needs of the child.
Additional Educational Needs
- Special Educational Needs
- Gifted
- Talented
- English as an Additional Language
We have Learning Assistants who specialise in Speech and Language assessments and deliver bespoke programmes in partnership with professionals. Mrs Campbell will tell you a little more about her role.
More able children
Teachers plan differentiated class activities to meet
the needs of the children based on regular assessments of their work. Children will be encouraged to tackle the challenge that’s right for them.
Teachers may also plan targeted questions during
whole class activities.
Staff complete regular reading assessments so
children can progress through the book bands at their own pace – it’s not a race and comprehension is a skill which will continue to need developing.
Children in Key Stage 1 are set for phonics / spelling. Interventions can also be put in place e.g. invite only
maths clubs, morning writing interventions.

How do I apply for a Year R place?
- Applications for children due to start primary and
junior school in September 2020 open on 5th November 2019 and close on 15th January 2020.
- You can apply for up to 3 schools, putting them in
- rder of preference. It's in your best interests to
list 3 schools. Naming only one school does not guarantee your child a place at that school or give your child priority for a place over another child, neither does naming a school more than once.
