the number of defendants in Crown Courts was at its lowest since Jan – Mar 2011.

Court delays are highest in Crown courts compared to magistrates courts due to the complexity or seriousness of cases handled by such courts. Over the last couple of years the average time from offences to
courts has not changed
than what they were in Jan – Mar 2011 and also compared to the beginning of FY 2012/13.

Average Time from offence to completionfor London LCJB areas
East London LCJB (Hackney and Tower Hamlet , Waltham Forest , Newham LJA) recorded the highest increase in the average time to completion. North East London LCJB (Barking, Havering and Redbridge LJAs) recorded the highest reduction in average time to completion.

The highest average time to completion is at the Central Criminal Court and at Southwark Crown Court. These could be mainly due to the volume and complexity of cases .
Around 55% of Magistrates and 45% of Crown Court trials are not effective in London. Most Cracked trials at the Crown Court are due to late guilty plea and most Ineffective trials are due to prosecution reasons. Most Cracked trials at Magistrates Courts are due to late guilty pleas and most Ineffective trials are due to defence reasons.

The highest percentage ineffective trials is in the South London
