Introduction Hello, my state is Mississippi. My state capital is Jackson. That is kind of cool! My largest city is Jackson too. Isn't that weird? The three major cities in my state are, Jackson, Biloxi, and Greenville. The population in my state is 2,967,297 people. Wow! My number of counties are 82. The other states that surround my state are Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana,and Tennessee.

Physical Description Now we are going to talk about Physical Description. My area is 48,434 square miles. My large rivers are the Mississippi River, Big Black River, Pearl River, and Yazoo River. My large lakes are Ross Barnett Resevoir, Arkabutla Lake, Sardis Lake, and Grinada Lake. Mississippi's highest point is Woodall mountain! Natchez trace Natchez scenic trail covers segments of the 694 mile long trail that follows the Natchez trace parkway.

State Symbols and Emblems Now we are going to talk about symbols. Do you know where my states name came from? It came from a River on the western side of its boundary. Do you know where the state flag came from? It was adopted in 1894. Mississippi state nickname is the Magnolia State. That is a pretty name! Mississippi's state bird is the mockingbird. My state insect is a honeybee. My state mammal is a white tailed deer. Mississippi's state flower is the magnolia. My state tree is the magnolia tree.

State History Now we are going to talk about history. Did you know that in 1822 Jackson became Mississippi's permanent state capital? In 1863 union forces captured Vicksburg after a fourty seven day siege. In 1936 the Balance Agriculturel with Industry Bawl program is initated. That means they wanted farming and factory's. The year Mississippi became a was December 10,1817.

Jobs and Resources We sill have a lot to talk about but now we are going to talk about jobs and resources. One job is farming cotton,corn,soybeans, and rice. People also drill for oil. They make textiles, electronics, and equipment. They also make money fishing.
