  1. MESSAGE FROM THE GOVERNOR JAMBI AT THE OPENING CAPACITY - BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR SOUTH EAST ASIA ON ECOSYSTEM CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION TO SUPPORT achievement AICHI OF BIODIVERSITY Targets Monday, April 28, 2014 Assalaamu'alaikum Wr . Wb . - Your Excellency, Head of UKP4, Dr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto ; - Your Excellency, Head of National REDD+ Agency, Dr . Heru Prasetyo ; - Your Excellency, Director of UNORCID, Mr . Satya S. Tripathi ; - Your Excellency all workshop delegations and my beloved participants ; 1. Praise and Gratitude to Allah SWT, the Almighty God, above the overflow of His mercy and grace that we are still given the health and strength to be present together here at the Capacity Building Workshop in related to the Biodiversity. 2. Starting this speech, I on behalf of the Government and people of Jambi province would like to welcome the Head of UKP4, Prof. Dr. Kuntoro, Head of National REDD+ Agency, Mr. Heru Prasetyo; and Director of UNORCID, Mr. Satya S. Tripathi; as well as the participants of the workshop in Jambi Province. Your presence is a tribute and infinite happiness for our people Jambi. 3. Through this happy occasion, I also would like to express my highly appreciation to the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Director of UNORCID, for the trust given in having Jambi Province as the host of this workshop. I hope that the facilities and services provided is not disappointing to the participants of the workshop, so that all of you would like to linger and want to go back again even after the completion of this event. My beloved audience, 4 . Today we are conducting a Workshop which has a very important meaning and strategic means for all of us, including Jambi provincial government, which is being actively doing the development, according to the Jambi Province’s Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMD) 2010-2015. We realize that in order to achieve Jambi with the economy in Secure and Prosperous Fair, Jambi Provincial Government, is facing complex challenges and problems, especially the problem of forest and land use, both in economically and socially .

  2. 5. Under the implementation of development priorities in related to the utilization of the natural resources and the environment towards Gold Jambi in 2015, it has shown some progress in result. Although we may not been able to satisfy all parties, but I would like to appreciate to all parties including international partner institutions for their cooperation and commitment, that can overcome these challenges, gradually. Hopefully with the fabric of cooperation and partnership as well as workshops conducted, it can make a positive contribution in addressing Jambi’s developmental issues in related to the management of natural resources and environment in a good and right way. 6. We need to realize that Indonesia is a country with the third largest tropical forest; therefore we have an important and strategic role in stabilizing the climate. From the tropical forests of Indonesia, Jambi Province is one of the potential as it has a complete forest, lowland forest, gently sloping east coast, until the swamp forest. Mr. Head of UKP4 and its contingent, together with my beloved audience, 7. On this happy occasion, we would also like to thank the National REDD+ Agency whom has initiated steps in Jambi by doing the Licensing Arrangement, where in the future will be built Licensing Information Management System. I value these efforts as a milestone in the journey of Jambi’s development in maintaining the sustainability of forests from degradation and deforestation. 8. We do realize that these activities will make major contribution in the reduction of emissions in the province of Jambi. This is reasonable given the fact that approximately 43 % of Jambi Province area or 2.2 million acres are forest area and approximately 8.7 % (191 thousand hectares) consists of protected peat forest. Therefore, it is appropriate that Jambi become a serious concern of the international community. 9. Within the framework of reducing carbon emissions in the province of Jambi, we continually made the effort to facilitate a multi-stakeholder meeting to harmonize and synergize various programs related to climate change and green development that exist and will be implemented in the province of Jambi. Such as: REDD+ program, a grant program of the MCA -Indonesia, WWF and Jungle Corridor RAD GRK and related programs, which are funded through the provincial budget and state / city in the province of Jambi. My beloved workshop participants, 10. We realize that the issue of climate change is currently a topic often discussed. At the province level, we have started to feel the fundamental changes of climate change on earth, such as shifting patterns and shifting change of seasons and other natural phenomena. 11. Therefore, the existence of various programs related to climate change that is offered becoming our alternative to tackle the problem of climate change. As one of the area with extensive forest cover, Jambi Province will be a motor , to encourage sustainable forest management and equitable beneficial economic and ecology.

  3. 12. Currently Jambi provincial government itself has consistently pushed the passage of a low carbon emissions development. This part of the Jambi Provincial Government's commitment to support the achievement of Indonesia's efforts to reduce emissions launched by Mr. President. 13. When we explore programs related to climate change mitigation or reduction in carbon emissions we identified many programs that have been implemented by the Jambi community, especially those whom are related to the conservation and protection of forests which has not limited support and attention from various parties. For example, indigenous forests in the Province of Jambi, which has its own management rules are in accordance with the goals of climate change mitigation programs. UKP4 Mr. Chairman and Ladies and Gentlemen, 14 . Before concluding these remarks, I would like to apologize should there be any inconvenience situation in regards to the organization of this workshop. Hence, we are trying to do our best, and I believe with hard work and best preparation of the entire committee, God willing, everything will go well, smooth and successful as we all hope and determination. We won’t forget to pass our gratitude to the entire organizing committee whom has worked hard to support the smooth the event series. 15. Above are some of my speeches and my expectation. I am hoping that we will do what we have planned, in addition to getting instruction from the Almighty God. Thank you. Wassalaamualaikum Wr.Wb. GOVERNOR JAMBI H.
