The Strategic Road Network (SRN)

  • The busiest part of the road network consisting of 4,400 miles (2% of

total road network), but carrying a third of traffic and two thirds of HGV traffic. Local roads

  • Consists of 184,100 miles of road, 98% of the entire road network.
  • Responsibility is split between 153 local highway authorities.
