Customer Requirements and Product Selection ● Target audience ○ Variety of disabilities that limit mobility ○ parkinson’s , arthritis, dyspraxia, spina bifida, and others ● We chose this product because: ○ It affects a variety of disabilities. ○ It was realistic to build given constraints. ○ It is cost-effective. ○ It allowed opportunities to customize and improve products that are similar. ● Customer ○ Trevanda Allison: a special education teacher whose students could use product

Conceptual Design ● Initial Design: ○ Plastic lace holders on top of shoe ○ Elastic cords on top of plastic piece to tighten laces ■ Attached to laces at each eye ○ Parts to aid with easy removal are placed next to ankle ○ Created a curved shape to fit arch of a foot ● Second Iteration: ○ Moved part to aid with easy removal to top of design ○ Moved piece to tighten laces behind loops ● Third Iteration ○ Removed curve from design and added foam for more secure fit

  5. Actual Design ● 3D-Printed design ● Pieces attached with epoxy ● Design covered with fabric for even finish ● Felt bumpers on the bottom for comfort and arch support

Customer Feedback and Results ● Could you use a variety of colors to match shoes? ○ We said that it could be made smaller if we locate smaller magnets, and a variety of fabrics could be utilized to match shoes. ● How heavy is it, and does it add much weight to the foot? ○ Devices are very lightweight. ● Would you add velcro to the side for shoelace security? ○ We would cut the excess lace off, or offer shoelaces of the correct length. ● Does the shoe move around and or does the magnalace come loose? ○ Shoes are very secure with Magnalaces added, and have to be removed with intentional force if the handles are not used. ● Customer said it was a beneficial product that would definitely help those who need it.

  8. Conclusions ● Improvements: ○ Smaller magnets for smaller overall design ○ More discreet design for product ○ More accurate CAD of design ● Conclusion ○ Product functions as intended ○ Product would be beneficial for people with fine motor disabilities ○ We are satisfied with our design.
