RF RF Power ● The power control is operational ● Re-Commissioning High Power RF finished. ● Re-commissioning High Level Voltage (50-60)KV ● 8 new klystrons installed ● Re-Conditioning RF Cavities ● (1 new cavity module installed) ● Partially done in 2014 it need 1 more week once when the cryogenic system will be available again . ● Need access to the tunnel RF low level ● Re-Commissioning of LLRF ● Goal: Re-commissioning the tuning and feedback loops ● Duration: 2-3 weeks once the Cavities conditioned 2 MV ● Precondition: RF operation software operational 5

  6. Collimators ● Collimators – Hardware – 32 new installations. – Handover STI >> OP/ABP progressing – Temperature system not yet tested (EN/ICE >> EN/STI) – TCTPH.4R8.B2 replaced – Commissioning in progress (Vacuum bake out ongoing) – Software – FESA class completely re-written: FESA2 -> FESA3. – New software needs to be tested: (checks of settings, generation new database structures...) – Machine Protection tests – MP sequences: ready but MP test not started yet. – General tests – Full operational cycle (73% collimators available) – Ready to tests the final hyper-cycle 6.5 TeV – OP sequences/settings on preparation 6

  7. ● Warm Magnets – Magnet polarity tested. – Heat run performed all sectors. ● Electricity ● EN EL network is fully operational. ● UPS tests ongoing ● Cooling & Ventilation ● Cooling Operational ● If Tunnel Non Accessible operational mode will be modified 36000 m³/hr – 18000 m³/hr ● To be tested ( 1 Day ) ● Ventilation Intervention IP 1 5 8 pressure check Tunnel/ Cavern ● 2 hrs each points without people in the machine 7

  8. ● CONTROL – CO infrastructure is deployed all around the accelerators, it has been well commissioned in the injectors and should be ready for LHC – LHC TIMING is currently being commissioned in the Dry Runs – LHC Alarm integration is currently being discussed in close collaboration between OP and CO – LSA applications commissioned in the Dry Runs and during the sector tests ● Beam Instrumentation ● BLM, BPM, Tune, Orbit, BSRT, Wire Scanner etc.. .in progress ● BTV tests next week. 8

  9. Power and Beam interlock ● FMCM – Check the correct triggering of the FMCM’s by provoking a fast abort in the related power converters. (To be done) ● PIC – Fully Re-commissioned during the HWC campaign – (including UPS and CRYO links) – Validation of interfaces between PIC and BIC to be done. – During the machine checkout phase we will have to verify the correct propagation of beam dump requests to the Beam Interlock System. ● WIC – TL’s and LHC system Operational. 9

  10. Power and Beam interlock ● Beam Interlock – User Permit – Re-commissioning campaign ongoing – Results have been presented to MPP. – Optical loops – Injection Beam Permit loop optical power margins still to be measured – Extraction BIS – Operational tested during TL’tests – Injection BIS – Operational ready for LHC injection – LHC BIS – Operational, Beam Permit loop integrity tested without clients. 10

  11. LBDS and Kickers ● LBDS – On remote and operational – Reliability run at 6.5 TeV done >> 7 TeV this week. – Connection to LASS to be tested! – BETS migration >> FESA 3 ongoing – XPOC testing ongoing – Arming sequence OK – Full check-out tests needed with system fully connected: – Energy tracking tests up to 6.5 TeV; – Arming the system connected to BIS once beam permits are OK – Circulate and dump sequence. – Machine protection tests with loop closed. https://edms5.cern.ch/file/896392/2/MPS-bc-LBDSv5.pdf 11

  12. LBDS and Kickers ● BETS on TDI & MSI – Hardware installed communication established but not tested yet – MSI need pulsing and will be put out of chain as EIS ● TCDQ – Remote reliability Run Ongoing – Software upgraded – Migration FESA 3 done ● MKQAC – Control work finished – AC dipole FESA 3 software tested this week – Aperture & Q kicker ok validated by dry run. ● MKI’s – Small issues to sort out but ON remote and basically operational. – Synchronization MKI and RF to be checked (changed during TL’s tests) – Software operational. 12

  13. BIS: from now to nominal situation ● Current situation of BIS system: – All clients / input are disconnected (HW jumper) with the exception of the LBDS. ● For beam startup the system must operate with all clients connected to the loop. – Strategy is to connect inputs without compromising tests. ● Strategy for progressive connection: – As soon as the SBF is reliable (issue with FBCT/(DCCT) signal – work ongoing) it is possible to connect all maskable inputs. – Can all be masked out if required. – For the sector test some inputs relevant for S12, S23, S81, S78 and S67 will be connected. – Disconnect after sector test? Tbd. 13

  14. BIS: from now to nominal situation ● Strategy for progressive connection (continued): – At the beginning of the MC period we may still be with some disconnected inputs. – If so progressively move to nominal situation. – Removing the HW jumpers requires access ! ● Details to be defined as the commissioning of the BIS clients is progressing. 14

  15. Beam loop closing ● Condition to close the BIS LOOP in nominal condition: – LHC access Key on Beam mode – LHC Vacuum operational valves open – Hardware commissioning finished; all circuits ON and no faults – No interlock from non maskable clients. 15

  18. Power and Beam interlock ● FMCM – We check the correct triggering of the FMCM’s by provoking a fast abort in the related power converters. ● PIC – Fully Re-commissioned during the HWC campaign – (including UPS and CRYO links) – Validation of interfaces between PIC and BIC to be done. – During the machine checkout phase we will have to verify the correct propagation of beam dump requests to the Beam Interlock System. This is typically done by provoking faults in each of the individual Power Converters using an automated sequence which verifies the configuration of essential/auxiliary circuits against the LSA database. ● WIC – TL’s and LHC system Operational. 18
