Deliver an options appraisal for the future of Environment Agency assets at Kirkham Consider and appraise all potential options Involve engagement with communities informed by local Involve engagement with communities informed by local views Involve engagement with larger stakeholders Identify a preferred option(s) for consideration by the Doing More for the Derwent Project Board.

Technical specialists represented their particular areas of expertise Workshop discussion identified two key aspects as to how the
thereby condition of the SSSI / SAC: Direction of flow (over weir / over sluice); and Water depths (maintain / partially reduce / full lowering).
6
No one option confers the best outcome for all topics. All agreed preferred direction of flow was along natural channel; therefore sluice to be decommissioned into fixed feature. All agreed reducing extent of impounded water offered additional benefits, but: although environmental benefits increase in proportion to reduction of impoundment; equally, risks increase in proportion to extent water levels lowered.
8
Therefore we are left with two potential options:
and partially lower the level of the weir; and
Conclusion – seek option to improve adapt weir to: Improve fish passage; and Lower water levels to a level ‘to be determined’.
