Option School Lotteries

35

  • If the number of applications exceed the available seats, APS will

conduct a lottery to determine admission into the school/program.

  • When families apply to more than one school/program, their

application goes into all lotteries simultaneously.

  • Immersion applications are divided into two pools: Spanish speakers

and non-Spanish speakers. This lottery supports a 50/50 balance of English and Spanish language speakers.

  • Lotteries for all Elementary Options schools will be held on April 23,

2020 and on April 24 for Preschool programs at the Welcome Center at the Syphax Education Center (2110 Washington Blvd. - First Floor).

slide-36
SLIDE 36

Lottery Notifications & Waitlists

36

  • Families will be notified of their acceptance or placement on the waitlist via

email and/or text by the Welcome Center May 1, 2020 after 4 p.m.

  • Parents must confirm or decline attendance to the school or program by

May 15, 2020. If a response is not received by the deadline, the space will be given to the next student on the waitlist.

  • If a student gets into more than one option school, parents

must decide which one their child will attend by the deadline. Once a family chooses a school/program, the student is then removed from all other

  • ptions or waitlists.
  • If families do not get their first choice, they can decline the space being
  • ffered at one of their other choices and remain on the waitlist for their first

choice.

slide-37
SLIDE 37
  • Students who applied, but were not selected,

will be placed in numerical order on a waitlist for the upcoming school year.

  • Applications received after the deadline are

placed at the bottom of the existing waitlist for the upcoming school year.

  • Waitlists no longer rollover from year to year,

so families must reapply each year to be included in the lottery for schools they applied to in previous years.
