Math study team convened Feb. 2018 completed work Spring 2019 ● Members met for ½ day once a month ● Team members - Jacque Wyant, Angela Pierce, Dave Carpenter, John Fiscus, Creighton Jenness, Doug Bacon, Kathy Cox, Michelle Crumrine, Pam Brewer-Michael, Pat Rial, Eric Goslinga and with support from Dr Jennifer Schilling ● Needs assessment document

Major conversations Need for updated materials for students and teachers (contract for online access to student books ended 2 years ago) Best practices - Shifts in Math practices Need for quality online materials to support Chromebooks and student personalization Middle School acceleration Researched major and secondary vendor materials (Ed Report as a guiding resource) Dr. Schilling worked with the team around Open Education Resources and Math practices Conversations were transferred to all math teachers through PLC process

  4. Results Go Math! Grade 7 and 8 and Illustrative Math (OER) for additional support to align with ● elementary Transition to Algebra materials - continue year 3: Alg 1A and 1B at MHS ● Pearson: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and investigate Illustrative Math (OER) to be ● released this summer Cengage - PreCalculus and Calculus ● Create a Pre Algebra (Honors grade 7) that compacts 7th and 8th grade standards ● (students must meet district requirements) Continue with Algebra I at Miller for grade 8 students who are full grade accelerated in ● math (students must meet the district requirements) Exceptional students will continue to be served through XLP programming ●

Rationale for course adjustments ⅓ to ½ entering high school students not ready for High School Coursework delivered at traditional pace Looked at data of students through course selection and course grades Teacher classroom observations of gaps Changes to XLP programming at 5-6 (no longer compacting math standards in Lenihan XLP program which was what originally prompted Algebra option at grade 7)
