Participants Project Teams NAHASDA Grantee Engaged in housing development on native lands in AZ, AK, CA, CO, HI, ID, MN, MT, NV, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA, WI, WY Project Leads Attend all five trainings & facilitate on-site activities Apply lessons from THE Academy to the housing project Instructors Academy Facilitators / Coaches Seasoned affordable housing & tribal housing development experts Deliver curriculum at all training sessions Coaches assist Project Team according to needs 6

Curriculum & Activities "THE Academy takes a more holistic approach to training as the material is as in-depth as a college course and provides detailed hands-on exercises...” Laurie Ann Cloud, Executive Director Nez Perce Housing Authority “ THE Academy has provided the Santo Domingo Tribal Housing Authority...a wealth of knowledge, including financial, regulations, policies, and creating case studies geared towards housing development...” Greta Armijo, Executive Director Santo Domingo Housing Authority Selection Criteria The most competitive applications will show a commitment of resources toward a housing project and staff time to participate in THE Academy. Organizational Readiness: Good operating history, organizational systems in place, Supportive board of commissioners/directors and executive staff Commitment to housing development, feasible plan for continued salary support for the project lead(s). Demonstrated capacity to leverage federal funding (in addition to NAHASDA) 7

Selection Criteria Project Readiness: Specific site under control Feasible housing development or housing rehabilitation project(s) identified Organizations will be competitively selected, so organizations identifying projects with advanced readiness to proceed will receive higher consideration. Selection Criteria Staff Readiness: Identify the development team of key people that will participate throughout this 30 month initiative Identify two staff who will be project lead(s) to attend all training weeks and complete the homework 8

Questions & Answers Key Dates September 1, 2016: Applications due to RCAC Oct - Nov 2016: Site visits, tours and interviews of top candidate applicants December 1, 2016: Announcement of selected organizations December 8, 2016: Kick off webinar for selected teams February 2017: 1st Training Week June 2017: 2nd Training Week October 2017: 3rd Training Week February 2018: 4th Training Week June 2018 5th Training Week 9

  10. Application Format Cover letter signed by the Executive Director/CEO that includes a vision (outcome) statement. Letter of commitment in support of the project, and the applicant’s participation. Names, contact information and brief bio of each Development Team Member including Project Leads (up to 2 pages total). Include when NAHASDA Essentials was taken, or commit to take within 12 months. Application Format Narrative description of the organization which includes the following Brief organizational history Accomplishments/Development Projects One sentence bio of each member of the Board of Directors/Commission/Council Information about target area Organizational chart 10

  11. Application Format (continued) Project Information. Identify the housing project(s) you are working on with construction expected by 2019 – your working case study for THE Academy. Name of project Type of project, Homeownership or Rental New construction or significant rehabilitation Potential number of units Location of project Description of project Evidence of site control. If the applicant wishes to include a partner lead from a not-for- profit development partner, please provide: Brief organizational history of the partner Accomplishments/Prior development projects Name, contact information and brief bio of the partner lead Description of the roles of the applicant and the partner Signed MOU or development agreement between the applicant and the partner Application Format (continued) Self-Assessment Checklists .
