February 2017 8 successful suppliers from across Europe were awarded MAGIC Phase 1 contracts to design solutions. All 8 suppliers were assigned a Go-To Clinician in a Northern Ireland Trust and in Italy for their expertise to assist in prototype design. June 2017 Suppliers showcased their final Phase 1 solutions to the Buyers Group and Italian Clinicians in Chieti, Italy. November 2017 4 of the 8 Phase 1 suppliers were awarded a Phase 2 contract and started prototype development: Buyers Group Project support Observer states Project funded in the framework of Horizon 2020 DG for Communications Networks, Content and Technology Sustainable and Secure Society - Health and Well-being -

Each supplier was assigned a Go-To Clinician and a Trust Research Manager for advice with trial planning. April 2018 - Suppliers showcase Phase 2 solutions in Chieti, Italy to the Buyers Group and Clinicians April 2018 - Phase 2 close October 2018 - Phase 3 commence with 3 successful suppliers participating for 18- months. Feasibility Study/ to-scale field trial January 2019 – First post-stroke patients recruited Buyers Group Project support Observer states Project funded in the framework of Horizon 2020 DG for Communications Networks, Content and Technology Sustainable and Secure Society - Health and Well-being -

Clinical / Patient Engagement Phase ‘0 ‘ • Initial meeting in Italy to understand PCP process , gain insight delivery of stroke care in Italy • Engagement events in with stroke clinicians & stroke survivors in Ulster University , local stroke groups e.g. physiotherapy exercise group , • Invest NI afternoon & industrial engagement events. • Presentations at NIMAST and Irish Physiotherapy Conference • Call for tender • Physiotherapists , Occupational Therapist and SLTS undertook appraisals of the proposed solutions ( 52 in total)

Clinician feedback Phase ‘0’ • Emphasised resource constraints affecting levels of care. • Issues around access to specialist equipment and technologies. • New solutions must be affordable and cost-effective and increase opportunity for practise and intensity . • Monitoring and feedback function. • Technologies need to be accessible and portable. • Different functionality & skill levels of stroke survivors to be considered (e.g., dexterity, repetition, task specific ) • Different effects of stroke and therapeutic requirements i.e meeting visual needs, communication needs , cognitive difficulties

Stroke survivor feedback Phase ‘0’ • Desire to manage their own recovery. • Want feedback on their progress. • Have appropriate stroke specific activity and exercise • Improve performance. • Ease of use technology • Gain more control over their day-to-day living • Survivors and carers felt needed better information for navigating care system & and dealing with recovery.

Clinicians role in Phase 1 &2 • Face to face engagement with clinicians and commercial solutions • Describe the challenge and educate companies about stroke rehabilitation • Explain evidence base and the essentials must do’s for successful outcome • Explore potential risks and adverse incidents • Advocate for our patients and determine essential components of a solution • Able to influence, advise , potentially modify technological solution

Phase 3 Camlin ARC-Intellicare • ARC-Intellicare is a machine-learning- based wireless platform • Personalise rehabilitation routines. • Provide continuous monitoring and give performance feedback during both exercise programs and Activity of Daily Living (ADL). • Consists wearable inertial sensors for upper, lower limb and postural monitoring, a tablet and a software platform, with a simple, gamified and straightforward usability.

  27. Tech4Care – Magic Glass • Utilises augmented and virtual reality (AR / VR) • Enables patients to perform optimal physical and cognitive rehabilitation at home, by means of serious games grounded in the mirror-therapy approach

  28. Corehab-WeReha • WeReha is an innovative medical device to rehabilitate stroke patients • Involves wearable sensors, monitor and biofeedback for total body exercises and “smart objects” for upper limb rehabilitation
