TECHMA WI WIN GAZP ZPROM CONTRACT FO FOR R PR PROVISION OF FIRE-FIGHTING AND EM EMERGENCY RESP SPONSE SER ERVICES Techma FZCO, part of the Techma Group of companies, is very pleased to announce that they have secured the contract with Gazprom to provide the Fire- fighting and Emergency Response Services at their Badra site in Iraq. The Gazprom project consists of onshore oil field development which includes all the facilities from the wellheads up to and including the export pipeline. The contract requires the deployment of some 64 personnel who will be responsible for undertaking fire-fighting duties, risk assessments, equipment maintenance, training for competence, fitness testing, incident investigation, fire safety inspections etc., and to carry out all the duties that could be expected of a professional fire department. Techma are pleased that they will be instrumental in trying to achieve one of the Iraqi Governments employment objectives that has set a target to replace 50% of the Expatriate Personnel with Iraqi Nationals during the initial three years of the contract. Mr Arnaud Lebrun, The Chief Executive of Techma, stated “We currently have a huge commitment in the South of Iraq with our Basra Academy for Training, and we see the Gazprom contract as an extension of our obligation to assist the Iraqi population whenever possible”. Techma are looking to extend their business interests in the Provision of Fire-fighting and Emergency Response Services that is seen as a perfect partner to their established Training Division.

The Basra Academy for Training (BAT) is an initiative launched by two international training companies: Pigier–Trema and Techma. It is backed by the Basrah Governorate, the Basrah Technical College and by the Southern Technical University. It is instrumental in the possibility of delivering international level courses and training in the heart of the city, inside the College’s secured campus. Following the completion of its modern training facilities, the Academy is now in a position to provide a series of courses and training in different disciplines. Highly qualified trainers with international experience will deliver courses accredited by reputable International Awarding Bodies such as NFPA, JOIFF, NEBOSH, ASNT and IOSH. Public courses are offered in the Academy’s facilities, following a calendar published on its website. Private and tailored courses are offered either in the Academy or in Client’s facilities and their program could be either the Academy’s standard accredited program, or a program designed to suit specific needs. Public courses topics are detailed on our website (www www.basra ra-academy.tra rainin ing). Topics of tailored courses cover a larger spectrum and can be delivered either by the Academy’s trainers or in cooperation with technical partners when required. Basrah Gas (BGC), in close partnership with the Provincial Council, has launched its community training for employment programme. The training programme is part of BGC’s commitment to support social enhancement for employment development in Basrah. Collaborating with the Provincial Council and working with accredited training institutions, Basrah Academy for Training and Technical University of Basrah, BGC has prioritized 120 unskilled labourers to improve their technical skills and develop their prospects for employment in a month-long programme. The trainees will be divided into several modules best suitable to their abilities and interest, such as welding, grinding, electrical works, mechanical and construction. The orientation session has split the members into their desired courses and the first class will begin the following week.

  • Mr. Ali Chaddad, head of the Oil and Gas Committee, stated in the orientation:

“This programme, as part of BGC’s Social Performance is very important, because it is our responsibility to always remember investing in our Human Resources before the Natural. This training is considered one of the most important initiatives to equip our Youth with new skills and help improve their resume and chances to find jobs.” Speaking about the programme, BGC Managing Director, Mr. Simon Daman Willems, said: “This is a very important step for BGC to have a positive impact in Basrah that goes beyond providing the much-needed energy in the country. As an Iraqi company, BGC is proud in helping social development by improving the community members’ skills.”
